What is Transitional Stage?
Transitional Stage is a thoughtful design for transitional housing at the intersection of 30th St & Chestnut St in Philadelphia.
The form of the building is a reflection of it’s function. The entrance is located one level below elevated 30th street, at the lower level of 30th street. After taking the monumental stair up you arrive on a covered plaza. This area is open to the public. There are three types of dwelling units — each for a stage of recovery. The first room is solitary — kind of like a modern monastery room — and is a space for reflection. The second builds comradery, like a dormitory — 2 roommates share a bathroom with 2 roommates. The third unit, and final stage, is a typical 1 bedroom efficiency apartment and is rented as one.
